Executive Vice President and General Counsel
David Ellen is executive vice president and general counsel of Cablevision Systems Corporation. As the company's chief legal officer, Mr. Ellen oversees all of Cablevision's corporate and business legal affairs.
Mr. Ellen started with Cablevision in 2004 as general counsel of the company's cable business and, during that time, also managed the legal affairs of other Cablevision businesses, including Lightpath, News 12 Networks and Newsday Media Group.
Previously, Mr. Ellen was deputy general counsel of InterActiveCorp (IAC), where he helped to oversee IAC's corporate legal affairs. He also served as general counsel for Eureka Broadband, a private New York-based telecommunications company focused on commercial customers. Prior to these positions, Mr. Ellen worked for Cablevision as senior counsel in the company's government affairs department.
Mr. Ellen is a graduate of Harvard Law School, where he was president of the Harvard Law Review. After law school, he clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer when they were judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals and then for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Mr. Ellen went on to serve as special counsel for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), working on the implementation of the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
Mr. Ellen is a trustee of Hudson Guild, a social service organization based in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood focused on serving the needs of low-income residents. He lives in Manhattan with his wife and two children.
